Living in a paradigm!

Welcome to the Keys To Success Club e-newsletter Success Insider

October 2008

Well, interesting times for me.  I am caught between the "never been seen before" financial crisis on one hand, and the one place which seems to have more cash and growth aspirations than it knows what to do with.  I discuss this paradigm in the experts tips section covering not only ways to "tighten the belt" and manage your finances, but also how a global meltdown can actually be a source of great opportunities ...

Before we go into the heavy stuff, a few lighter moments to share with you.  Last time I talked about Saadiyat Island the "Island of Happiness" where there will be a new Louvre, Guggenheim, another 5 museums, a New York University and over 150,000 residents.  Well, there is a lot of interest in this at the moment, so using my contacts and my trusty video, come and join me on a tour of this island 5 years before its fruition...

And for my second video, a bit of fun in the darkness of the current fear mongering media overwhelm.  Welcome to Oman, a great place to check out on your travels.

In other news I went up and met with the team from Desert MultiMarathon to help them shoot their promotional video, which is included in this newsletter.  They really are stepping out and making a real difference.  I encourage you all to watch the video and support this team on their epic adventure.

Success Tips to survive and profit from the credit crunch

Today's success tip comes from Stephen McClatchie

I shot this video a few months but it seems particularly relevant in the current times.  Stephen is a property finance expert and in this particular video we discuss finance fundamentals including:

  • ways to save money without affecting your lifestyle
  • how to reduce your debt
  • how to manage debt

I have been watching with interest the reactions over the past three months and will share with you some key points around the core themes of strategy and mindset:

Strategy - The capitalist landscape always has boom and bust times, so you always need to map your strategy so it can be effective in both.  Successful people have a number of strategies in place:

  • Effective risk mitigation plans.  Income protection, cash buffers etc
  • A cash reserve to harness opportunities that come with a downturn. Yes that's right, if your strategy is right then the downturn can one of your greatest allies.  Prices come down, competition reduces, talent becomes more readily available and less expensive.  Many successful entrepreneurs deliberately start their businesses in a downturn
  • Don't abandon everything you have been focused,; yes be flexible and adaptable to the changing environment, but keep your focus

Success Mindset - In testing times, you will really see your true mindset kick in.

  • Watch out for the "Ostrich" Syndrome where the fear sets in and you abandon all hope of success and hide under the sand.  Don't abandon all your goals and keep your positivity and determination strong.
  • Truly successful people are equally happy in good or bad times.  If you are not then explore this and learn from it. Are you too money orientated for example?
  • Remember that tough times and experiences are when you have the opportunity to personally grow, so be open to this
  • Remember your inner strength and stand tall.  Don't become a sheep led by the daily whims of the drama hungry media
